This Sidney Arthur HOOKINS was born in the December quarter of 1889 in New Brompton the 9th of 10 children born to William HOOKINS and his wife Emma (nee CANE).
He first appears in a Census 2 years later at 9 Station Road, Gillingham, Kent where he lived with his parents and 8 siblings together with his maternal grandparents.

For the 1901 Census the family including Sidney's parents and 5 siblings were living at the LCB railway station as Sidney's father was a Railway Inspector although he was to die in 1907. So in 1911 Sidney was living at 377 High Street, Rochester with his widowed mother, 3 siblings and a Servant with Sidney's occupation said to be a Dental Mechanic.
On 1 February 1919 Sidney married Ellen LAZELL at Orsett Register Office. By this time Sidney was a Dental Assistant and he moved into Ellen's address at 56 Whitehall Lane, Grays.

Sidney's Army discharge papers were served on 6 February 1919 when he was transferred to Reserve. His medical records show that his appendix was removed at Great Hermitage, Higham near Rochester in 1917. He was said to be 6'1" tall with hammer toes on both feet which is where the middle joint of the toe bends.
The couple had no children and next appear in records in the 1939 Register where they live at 94 Clarence Road, Grays.

Sidney was now a Dentist and Ellen a Dentist's Clerk and Sidney is listed in the Dentists' Register in 1940. He had registered to practise on 9 August 1922 Certificate No 15836.
He died on 11 February 1959 at St Marys Hospital in Paddington.

Ellen remarried the following year to Reginald GODWARD and died in 1986 in Southend on Sea just 3 years after the death of her second husband.
